Easiest Birthday Cake Ever

For his birthday party Zach wanted to have waffles, sausage, bacon, hash browns and chocolate milk. With that menu, we decided to have a brunch party. The best part was, instead of having a cake, Zach wanted to make a donut tower. Completes the party theme and easiest birthday cake ever!

Josh's essay

We had some exciting news this week. Josh entered an essay contest and won 2nd place in his category and finished in 2nd place overall for all Elementary students!

The essay was sponsored by Save our Schools Castro Valley and was open to all students in the district, 4-12 grade. The topic was Why School Matters and there were 10 categories that the kids could write about all pertaining to how to help the schools. Josh wrote about why it is important to support our schools even if you don't have children attending school. Josh won $75 and 4 rounds of mini golf.

School Matters!

Topic #3 – Why is it important to support our schools even if you don't have children attending school?

By Josh Perry, 5th Grade, Independent Elementary School

It is important for everyone to support our schools. It is important not only for people who have kids at the school, but it is also important for people who don’t have kids at the school.

One reason to support our schools is that if you ever do have kids, then they will have good schools where they can learn. They will have good teachers who can answer their questions so their education can be a thriving success.

Another reason to support our schools is that good schools increase property values. If you live near a great school, your house will be worth more. Even if you don’t plan to sell your house now, if you sell in the future, a great school will make you get top dollar.

The next reason to support our schools is that the kids in your community might grow up to work in your community. They could be doctors, lawyers, or electricians. If you get sued, your lawyer might have gotten his education from a school you supported. Or if you have a problem with your electricity, you want the electrician who helps you to have a good education.

The school district employs many people in the community. If your best friend was a teacher and they lost their job they might have to move away. Wouldn’t that make you sad? With all the district cuts, lots of good people would lose their jobs. We can all help prevent that by donating to our schools.

In summary, it is important to support our schools so kids can have good schools where they can learn, the property values in our neighborhoods will increase, people in our community can have a good education, and the school district can continue to employ many people in our community.

Congratulations Josh!

Old baseball / softball pictures from 2010

Just found these pictures from last year today. Good thing, because pictures for this year are just around the corner.
Better late than never!

End of Basketball season

The boys had their last basketball game on Saturday. It has been a great season and they were sad to see it end. They both did really well and both were the high scorers on their team for the season. Josh also had the most rebounds and the highest field goal percentage on his team.

Old phone pictures

I was going through all the pictures on my old phone before activating my new one and saw these favorites that I just had to save. My new iPhone has a flash, so now all my pictures from the Aquarium should turn out better!
